Lagos Launches 101-Day Festival to Drive Tourism and Economic Growth

The Lagos State Government has unveiled a 101-day cultural and entertainment festival aimed at boosting tourism and creating new economic opportunities for stakeholders in the hospitality and creative sectors.

The festival, tagged “101 Days in Lagos,” will run from September 26 to January 4, 2026, featuring a wide range of cultural, entertainment, and sporting activities across multiple venues in the state.

According to the government, the initiative is designed to position Lagos as Africa’s leading cultural and tourism hub, foster international partnerships, empower young people through skill development, and showcase the rich diversity of the state’s creative industries.

A major highlight of the programme is the “Skills Up Lagos” initiative, which will train young people in tourism, hospitality, and event management. Other events will include music and fashion festivals, art exhibitions, food fairs, and sporting competitions, all tailored to attract both local and international visitors.

Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Idris Aregbe, disclosed the plans during a meeting with the Pulse Africa team.

In a statement on Tuesday, Aregbe said the initiative would transform Lagos’ tourism landscape by making it a year-round destination and a cultural powerhouse on the continent.

“The agenda includes empowering youth through robust skills development, showcasing the rich tapestry of Lagos’ cultural heritage, fostering international sports engagement, and diversifying entertainment to grow the daytime economy,” he said.

He added that the festival aligns with the ministry’s vision of promoting tourism, projecting Lagos’ cultural narratives, and cultivating a vibrant entertainment scene.
