The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has released the nomination and administrative fees for aspirants contesting various positions in the upcoming July 12 local government elections.
According to the party’s election guidelines, which were jointly signed by the APC State Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, and Secretary, Dr. Adeola Jokomba, male aspirants for the chairmanship position are required to pay ₦5 million as a nomination fee and ₦500,000 as an administrative fee, totaling ₦5.5 million. Female aspirants, however, are to pay ₦2.5 million for the nomination form and ₦500,000 for administrative charges, bringing the total to ₦3 million.
The party stated that aspirants under the age of 40 would receive a 50 percent discount on the nomination fee, while the administrative fee remains unchanged at ₦500,000. In addition, the APC waived the nomination fee for persons with disabilities, though they are required to pay ₦250,000 as an administrative charge.
For councillorship positions, the party fixed the nomination fee for male aspirants at ₦1 million, with an additional ₦100,000 administrative fee. Female aspirants are to pay ₦250,000 for the nomination form and ₦100,000 for administrative costs. Youths contesting for councillorship positions are eligible for a 50 percent reduction in the nomination fee, while persons with disabilities are exempted from paying the nomination fee but must pay ₦50,000 as an administrative charge.
“There shall not be a separate fee for the vice chairman,” the party noted, adding that all payments must be made via bank draft in favour of the All Progressives Congress, Lagos State.
The guidelines also outline requirements for endorsement. Chairmanship aspirants must present sponsorship from five registered party members who are voters in their ward and local government area or LCDA. Councillorship aspirants are to be endorsed by 20 registered members within their ward.
The APC emphasized that all aspirants must be Nigerian citizens and must meet constitutional qualifications for public office. It stated that candidates must possess at least a school certificate or its equivalent, while higher qualifications would be considered an advantage.
The party added that candidates must be at least 30 years old to contest for chairmanship and 25 years old for councillorship. Aspirants are also expected to provide evidence of party membership, demonstrate active support for party activities, and sign the party’s Code of Conduct. Only those cleared by the screening committee will be allowed to participate in the primaries.
The APC further directed that any aspirant currently holding a party office and intending to run for another position must resign 30 days before the primary election or the general election. It maintained that all aspirants must comply with constitutional requirements and the party’s internal regulations.
