Joy and relief swept through Eruku community in Kwara State on Tuesday evening as 38 worshippers abducted by gunmen returned home after a successful rescue operation.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Ekiti Local Government Council Chairman, Prince Dada Sunday, the worshippers were freed through a coordinated effort led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Kwara State Governor Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and the Office of the National Security Adviser.
The abductees arrived in Eruku at about 6:30 p.m., where they were welcomed with jubilation by family members, friends, and well-wishers who had anxiously awaited their return.
Prince Sunday revealed that Governor AbdulRazaq officially handed over the rescued worshippers to the Executive Chairman of Ekiti Local Government Council, Honourable Awelewa Olawale Gabriel, in Ilorin—bringing a triumphant end to days of fear and uncertainty.
He noted that the handover ceremony underscored the dedication and relentless efforts of government authorities and security agencies who worked tirelessly to ensure the victims’ safe return.
In his remarks, Honourable Awelewa expressed profound gratitude to President Tinubu, Governor AbdulRazaq, the National Security Adviser, and every security agency involved in the operation.
He commended the swift response from the president and the governor, which he said played a decisive role in the timely rescue of the abductees.
“We appreciate the comprehensive medical care and support provided to the victims after their rescue,” he added, assuring residents that his administration remains committed to strengthening security across all 10 wards of the Ekiti Local Government Area.
The Owa of Eruku also voiced deep appreciation to all stakeholders, particularly President Tinubu, Governor AbdulRazaq, and the security operatives whose coordinated actions made the rescue possible. He said the community is overjoyed and relieved to have their people back home safely.
He described the successful rescue operation as a powerful demonstration of what collective resolve can achieve in safeguarding the lives and well-being of citizens.
