Kebbi gov hails FG for completing NHRC offices

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has praised the Federal Government for its efforts in constructing and completing the Human Rights Commission (NHRC) offices in various states across the country. His remarks were made on Monday during the commissioning of the Kebbi State NHRC office in Birnin Kebbi.

Idris emphasized that the event highlighted the Federal Government’s commitment, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, to enhancing cooperation and coordination in the planning and implementation of human rights initiatives nationwide.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala-Tafida, he said, “We commend the Federal Government, particularly the Minister of Justice, the Chairperson, and the Executive Secretary of NHRC for their collaborative efforts in providing a suitable office for the commission.”

He also pledged his administration’s support by ensuring the office is connected to the national grid and providing an operational vehicle to assist its activities in the state. Additionally, Idris highlighted his commitment to human rights protection by announcing the recent approval of a staff appointment to serve as a Special Adviser on Human Rights Protection and Enforcement in his administration.

In his address, the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), reaffirmed that the Federal Government, under President Tinubu, was committed to maintaining the independence of the Human Rights Commission. Fagbemi stated that the commissioning of the Kebbi office marked a significant step in reinforcing the commission’s operational independence.

He further described the move as a strong statement of the government’s support for the NHRC and its role in safeguarding the rights of Nigerians.
