The Katsina State Government has urged parents and caregivers to stop concealing cases of gender-based violence and child abuse, regardless of how closely related they are to the offenders.
The State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hadiza Yar’adua, emphasized that emergency toll-free lines are available for reporting such issues in the state.
Yar’adua made these remarks on Friday during a Community Sensitization event on Gender-Based Violence titled “Say No to GBV, Demand Accountability, Stand for Justice, Support Survivors,” held at the Tudun Yan-lihidda Community in the State Capital.
Earlier, on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, the wife of the Katsina State Governor, Hajiya Fatima Radda, visited female and male inmates at the Katsina Central Correctional Center. The visit was aimed at assessing their conditions and addressing their immediate needs. Accompanied by the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Hadiza Yar’adua, Radda emphasized the emotional toll of losing one’s freedom and being separated from loved ones.
During her visit to the Pharmacy of the Correctional Center, the governor’s wife donated N500,000 for the purchase of additional medications for the inmates. Mrs. Radda also stated that the Ministry of Women Affairs, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Justice will collaborate to explore the possibility of pardoning some of the inmates.
In her remarks, Commissioner Yar’adua highlighted the ministry’s commitment to inclusivity, noting that visits to both female and male Correctional Centers are part of efforts to support and encourage the inmates.
