Kano Mourns the Loss of Galadima Abbas Sunusi, Renowned Kingmaker at 91

The esteemed Galadima of Kano and the oldest kingmaker in the ancient city Abbas Sunusi, passed away on Tuesday night at the age of 91. He was a revered figure in the Kano Emirate Council and served as Wamban Kano, a senior Councilor, under the late Emir Muhammadu Sanusi I and Emir Ado Bayero.

Galadiman Kano was not only a significant community leader but also the father of Abdullahi Abbas, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, and Kabiru Abbas. His sons confirmed the news of his passing on Tuesday night, stating that he died after a prolonged illness.

Abbas Sunusi’s death represents a monumental loss for the Kano community, which has relied on his wisdom and leadership for many years. He had a distinguished service under Emir Alhaji Ado Bayero, who reigned from 1963 until his death in 2014.

He leaves behind a legacy marked by his role as a key figure in the Kano Emirate, and he is survived by his wives and 35 children, including his son Abdullahi Abbas.

The funeral for the late Galadima Abbas Sunusi will take place on Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the Gidan Rumfa Emir’s Place. The entire Kano community and beyond will mourn the passing of one of its most respected leaders.
