The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its full support for Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and associations involved in hypertension awareness and advocacy efforts across the state.
This commitment was made by the Commissioner for Health, Abubakar Yusuf, during a courtesy visit by the Association of People Living with Hypertension (APLWH) and the GAMMUN Centre for Care and Development.
Yusuf commended the organizations for their grassroots efforts in raising awareness about hypertension, describing it as a “silent killer” that requires ongoing sensitization and early detection. He emphasized the government’s dedication to strengthening healthcare services and reducing the burden of hypertension through strategic initiatives.
Hussaini Namadi, a Board of Trustee Member of APLWH, spoke on behalf of the advocacy groups, expressing gratitude for the state government’s expansion of the National Hypertension Control Initiative (NHCI) service centers from 22 to all 44 local government areas in Kano. He also praised the government’s training and deployment of hundreds of health workers under the NHCI, noting that these efforts are already yielding significant improvements in public health outcomes.
The advocacy groups reiterated their commitment to continued awareness campaigns, stressing that increasing public understanding and ensuring early detection are crucial in tackling the growing burden of hypertension in Kano and throughout Nigeria.
