Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has demanded the public parade of those responsible for the brutal killing of 16 hunters and compensation for their families.
The call came during a condolence visit by his Edo counterpart, Governor Monday Okpebholo, following the tragic lynching of the hunters in Uromi, Edo State.
The victims, accused of being kidnappers, were burned alive by a vigilante group last Thursday.
Governor Yusuf expressed outrage over the attack, emphasizing that such violence undermines Nigerian values and must be condemned.
He confirmed that 14 suspects have been arrested and urged security agencies to remain vigilant to prevent further violence, including during the upcoming Sallah celebrations.
He also called for the public parade of the arrested suspects to ensure accountability and bring relief to the grieving families.
Governor Okpebholo, who had visited the victims’ families and personally ensured their proper burial, pledged that justice would prevail. Both governors condemned the brutal killings and reiterated the need for peaceful coexistence, calling for swift justice to deter future violence.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, including from the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, who urged stronger oversight of community policing efforts.
Meanwhile, the Edo State Police have denied rumors of unrest in Uromi and continue to investigate the matter. The Esan Descendants Assembly also condemned the killings, stressing the importance of justice and peace in the region.
