Kaduna: TCN Partners with Traditional Leaders to Combat Vandalism and Encroachment on Transmission Lines

In a proactive step to address vandalism and encroachment on transmission line Right-of-Way (RoW), the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has engaged traditional leaders in the Kaduna Region. This initiative aims to enhance cooperation with local communities in safeguarding power assets.

TCN’s General Manager for Public Affairs, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, announced this development in a statement on Tuesday, highlighting the strategic engagements designed to raise awareness about protecting the nation’s critical infrastructure.

Leading the delegation, Engr. Nasir Mansur Fada, General Manager of Transmission for the Kaduna Region, visited significant sites, including the palaces of key traditional leaders in the Mando and Rigasa communities.

These visits aimed to strengthen ties with local leaders and address growing safety concerns related to unauthorized developments beneath high-tension transmission lines.

During these sensitization meetings, first held with Sarkin Mando, Alhaji Sani Musa, and later with the District Head of Rigasa Community, Arch. Aminu Mohammed Idris, Engr. Fada expressed serious concerns regarding the rising instances of encroachment on transmission corridors.

He warned that the construction of residential and commercial structures directly beneath high-voltage lines poses substantial health and safety risks, including the danger of electrocution.

Engr. Fada reiterated that individuals who encroach upon designated Right-of-Way areas do so at their own peril, clarifying that TCN would not be held liable for accidents related to electrical hazards, which could be fatal in the event of a line cut.

He further emphasized the broader implications of vandalism and RoW violations, noting that these actions not only jeopardize lives but also threaten the stability and reliability of bulk electricity supply throughout the region and the nation as a whole.

This initiative reflects TCN’s commitment to working collaboratively with communities to promote safety and protect vital electricity infrastructure.
