Kaduna Governor Releases ₦3.8 Billion for Payment of Pension Benefits to Civil Servants

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has ordered the immediate release of ₦3.8 billion to the Kaduna State Pension Bureau to facilitate the payment of gratuities, death benefits, and accrued rights for civil servants enrolled in the contributory pension scheme.

The directive comes after the governor considered the heartfelt appeals from pensioners and the families of deceased civil servants, who expressed concerns that the ongoing verification exercise was adversely affecting their livelihoods.

In a statement issued by Ibrahim Musa, the governor’s spokesman, Governor Sani emphasized that the verification exercise was necessary to eliminate “ghost” pensioners from the payroll and prevent the misuse of the state’s limited resources. Despite this, he directed the Pension Bureau to proceed with the immediate disbursement of funds to the pensioners.

Governor Sani reiterated his commitment to the welfare of the state’s pensioners, affirming that the clean-up of the payroll was essential to ensure uninterrupted payments in the future. He expressed deep appreciation for the dedication and service of senior citizens who spent their careers serving Kaduna State, underscoring that they must be supported and cared for in their retirement.

He also assured pensioners that the verification exercise would be completed swiftly, enabling them to receive regular, hassle-free payments moving forward. Governor Sani thanked the pensioners for their patience and understanding during the process.

Since taking office in May 2023, Governor Sani has disbursed a total of ₦6.6 billion for the payment of gratuities, death benefits, and accrued rights.
