Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has urged both leaders and citizens to use the occasion of Democracy Day to renew their dedication to the core principles of democracy and to work collaboratively toward a more just and prosperous Nigeria.
In his message commemorating the June 12 anniversary, Governor Sani congratulated Nigerians broadly and Kaduna residents in particular, emphasizing the need for unity as the foundation for building a society that offers equitable opportunities and improved living standards for all.
Reflecting on the sacrifices of Nigeria’s democracy champions, he stressed that their legacy should continue to inspire vigilance in protecting the nation’s hard-won freedoms and in deepening democratic governance.
“Though the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election marks a painful chapter in our history, it also became a powerful catalyst that united citizens and activists in a shared pursuit of democracy,” Governor Sani said.
He called on Nigerians to both celebrate the progress made since the restoration of democracy in 1999 and honestly assess the challenges that remain. “We have made significant strides over the past two-and-a-half decades, even as we face ongoing economic and security hurdles,” he noted.
Despite these challenges, Governor Sani expressed optimism, underscoring that with collective unity, resilience, and determination, Nigeria can overcome its difficulties and build a brighter future.
Highlighting his administration’s approach, he announced a continued commitment to strengthening democracy in Kaduna State through inclusive governance and broad-based consultation, ensuring that all voices are heard in the decision-making process.
“As we mark this important anniversary, let us reaffirm our commitment to democratic ideals and work together for a united and prosperous Nigeria,” Governor Sani concluded.
