Juliana Olayode Slams Rising Aso-Ebi Costs at Nigerian Weddings

The actress calls out couples for inflating fabric prices, urging them to make celebrations more affordable.

Nollywood actress and content creator, Juliana Olayode, has sparked online debate after criticizing the soaring cost of aso-ebi fabrics at Nigerian weddings.

In a video shared on Instagram, Olayode questioned why couples insist on selling fabrics at exorbitant prices, sometimes as high as ₦500,000 for just three yards.

“How can you be selling your aso-ebi for ₦500,000 for just three yards? After spending that much, you still expect us to spray money at the party. And to make it worse, most of these fabrics can’t even be reused after the wedding,” she lamented.

She urged couples to consider offering fabrics at more affordable rates, suggesting ₦20,000 to ₦25,000, to allow guests to create stylish outfits without financial strain.

Beyond the high cost of fabrics, the actress also highlighted the discomfort guests face at overcrowded ceremonies. “When you get to the wedding, there are no seats. Everywhere is packed with content creators. What is it?” she questioned.

Olayode concluded by calling for moderation, stating that couples must choose between expensive aso-ebi and monetary gifts from guests. “Either you pick your aso-ebi, or you pick the spray. Don’t make us tired. We want to celebrate with you, not go broke,” she said.
