Joshua Kimmich Extends Bayern Munich Contract Until 2029

FC Bayern Munich has confirmed that German international Joshua Kimmich has extended his contract with the club until June 30, 2029. The announcement, made on Thursday, ensures that Kimmich, who joined Bayern nearly a decade ago, will continue to be a central figure for the Bundesliga giants.

The 30-year-old midfielder has played a pivotal role for both Bayern Munich and the German national team, amassing numerous domestic and international titles, including eight Bundesliga titles, the UEFA Champions League, and the FIFA Club World Cup, among others.

Bayern Munich President Herbert Hainer praised the club’s management for securing Kimmich’s future, highlighting his importance both on and off the pitch. “FC Bayern needs players who not only wear the shirt but also take on responsibility. Joshua Kimmich is one of those players,” Hainer stated.

Club CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen also acknowledged Kimmich’s leadership qualities, both at the club and internationally as the captain of Germany. “His hunger and determination, seen again in the Champions League round of 16, embody the values of FC Bayern. We are thrilled that Joshua will continue to lead us into the future,” Dreesen remarked.

Max Eberl, Bayern’s board member for sport, added that Kimmich is the epitome of the club’s mentality and identity. “Joshua represents what FC Bayern stands for—mentality and fighting spirit. He has internalized the club’s DNA and embodies it both on and off the field,” Eberl said.

Sporting Director Christoph Freund praised Kimmich’s relentless drive, stating, “Joshua’s passion for the game and for Bayern is evident in every minute he plays. He’s a leader who drives the team forward and will continue to be an engine for the club.”

Kimmich, who has played 429 competitive matches for Bayern, scoring 43 goals and providing 115 assists, expressed his satisfaction with the club’s environment and his desire for continued success. “At FC Bayern, I have the best environment to achieve my sporting goals. For me, there’s no better team, coaching staff, or club environment to achieve success. I feel at home here and I’m not finished yet,” Kimmich said.

Since joining Bayern from VfB Stuttgart, via RB Leipzig, in 2015, Kimmich has amassed a stellar array of trophies, including three DFB Cups, six DFL-Supercups, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup. On the international stage, he has earned 97 caps for Germany, scoring seven goals, and has captained the national team since last year.
