Women leaders across Nigeria have called for stronger action, inclusion and empowerment as the country joined the global community to mark International Women’s Day 2026.
In her message, Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, urged increased investment in women and girls, stressing that their advancement remains essential to national development.
She noted that the theme for this year, “Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls”, underscores the need for practical steps to promote equality and expand opportunities for women.

According to her, empowering women is not an act of charity but a strategic investment that strengthens families, communities and the nation.
Tinubu encouraged continued support for policies and initiatives that advance the rights and wellbeing of women and girls across the country.
Also lending her voice to the celebration, the wife of the Ondo State Governor, Seun Aiyedatiwa, called on women to continue supporting one another and contributing positively to society.
In a message shared on her Facebook page, Aiyedatiwa highlighted the theme “Give to Gain”, stressing mentorship, collaboration and acts of kindness among women.
She commended women in Ondo State for their resilience and contributions across various sectors, urging them to keep building stronger communities through unity and support.
Similarly, the wife of the Anambra State Governor, Nonye Soludo, called for more deliberate efforts to create opportunities for women and girls to thrive.
In a statement marking the day, Soludo said discussions about women’s advancement must be matched with practical action, adding that women should take a stronger role in leadership and decision-making.
She also praised proposals aimed at increasing women’s representation in the National Assembly, describing them as steps toward fairer inclusion in governance.
