Interpol Issues Red Notice for Ghana’s Former Finance Minister
Interpol has issued a Red Notice for Ken Ofori-Atta, Ghana’s former finance minister, following a request from Ghanaian prosecutors who have declared him a fugitive over alleged corruption.
Ofori-Atta, who served from 2017 to 2024, is accused of using public office for personal gain—particularly in relation to the controversial $58 million National Cathedral project, which remains unfinished.
Though his lawyers submitted medical records citing treatment abroad, the Special Prosecutor insists he failed to appear before an investigative panel and is now seeking international help to locate him.
“A suspect cannot dictate how investigations are run,” said Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng.
Ofori-Atta has denied wrongdoing and claims unlawful treatment. He previously sued the Special Prosecutor’s office and sought removal of damaging content online.
The case is part of President John Mahama’s new anti-corruption campaign, Operation Recover All Loot, which is investigating over $20 billion in alleged state fund losses. Critics, however, say the crackdown has overlooked allies of the current administration.
