INEC Vows Credible Kaduna Bye-Elections on August 16, Assures Voter Inclusion in Security-Prone Areas

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Kaduna State, Saidu Babura-Ahmad, has assured that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is fully committed to conducting free, fair, and credible bye-elections in the state, scheduled for August 16, 2025.

Babura-Ahmad gave this assurance on Friday during a one-day stakeholder engagement held in Kaduna, aimed at preparing for the forthcoming elections in three key constituencies.

The REC identified the affected areas as Chikun and Kajuru Federal Constituency, as well as Zaria Kewaye and Zaria Sabon Gari State Constituencies.

“This meeting serves as an opportunity to formally introduce myself as the new Resident Electoral Commissioner for Kaduna State, here on an important national duty. I assure you all of my neutrality and fairness in the discharge of this responsibility,” he said.

He explained that the engagement also aimed to update stakeholders on the commission’s extensive preparations for the upcoming bye-elections.

Babura-Ahmad disclosed that the elections will take place across 33 Registration Areas, comprising 1,169 Polling Units. He revealed that 4,829 ad hoc personnel will be deployed, supported by 947 vehicles of various types to ensure smooth logistics throughout the process.

He further emphasized that INEC was operating on a round-the-clock basis to guarantee a successful and credible electoral exercise.

The Commissioner added that special provisions had been made to ensure that voters in areas prone to security threats would not be disenfranchised. He also noted that strategic measures were being implemented to reach all remote and hard-to-access locations using every available means of transportation.
