The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially scheduled the 2026 governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states for Saturday, July 20 and Saturday, August 8, respectively.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this on Friday during the swearing-in ceremony of six newly appointed Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs), recently confirmed by the National Assembly.
Prof. Yakubu noted that preparations are already underway for several bye-elections to fill existing vacancies in both the National and State Houses of Assembly.
He emphasized the Commission’s commitment to transparency and timely electoral planning, saying the early release of the election timetable aims to give all stakeholders ample time to prepare.
With this announcement, political activities in both states are expected to intensify as parties begin gearing up for what promises to be closely watched gubernatorial contests.
