India-Pakistan Tensions Escalate Following Missile Strikes Over Kashmir

Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated sharply after India launched “Operation Sindoor,” targeting nine sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
The strikes, conducted in response to a deadly April 22 attack in Indian-administered Kashmir that killed 26 civilians, were aimed at infrastructure linked to militant groups Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba.
Pakistan condemned the strikes as an “unlawful act of war,” reporting 26 civilian deaths, including women and children. In retaliation, Pakistan claimed to have shot down five Indian fighter jets and launched its own strikes, reportedly targeting Indian military positions.
The conflict has resulted in at least 34 deaths and numerous injuries, marking the most severe escalation between the nuclear-armed neighbors in over two decades.
International leaders, including UN Secretary-General António Guterres and officials from the US, UK, and China, have urged both nations to exercise restraint and engage in dialogue to prevent further escalation.
The situation remains volatile, with both countries maintaining combative stances and the international community closely monitoring developments.
