The Imo State Police Command has confirmed that more than seven people were killed in a violent attack carried out in the early hours of Friday across three communities in Arondizuogu, located in Ideato North Local Government Area.
The communities affected Ejezie, Umualaoma, and Ndiakuwata Uno were left reeling after armed men, suspected to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its militant arm, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), launched what police have described as a “barbaric and inhumane” assault.
Spokesman for the Imo State Police Command, Henry Okoye, issued a statement on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, condemning the killings in the strongest terms and describing them as unacceptable.
Several other residents reportedly sustained serious injuries during the attack.
“It was a senseless act of violence,” Okoye said, adding that a full-scale manhunt has been launched to track down those responsible.
In response, Commissioner Danjuma has deployed both tactical and intelligence units to the area to ensure immediate containment and prevent further escalation. He confirmed that efforts are underway to stabilize the region while investigations continue.
Danjuma also extended his condolences to the families of the deceased, offering prayers for their loved ones and wishing a speedy recovery to those injured.
As tension remains high in the affected communities, police have urged residents to stay calm, remain alert, and report any suspicious movement or individuals to the nearest authorities.
The police command has reaffirmed its resolve to bring the attackers to justice and restore peace in the region.
