Immigration officer not shot on orders of Chinese expatriate – FG

The Federal Government has announced that further investigations into the shooting of a Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) officer near a Chinese company in Niger State have revealed that the officer was not targeted.

The Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Minister of Interior, Babatunde Alao issued an updated statement clarifying that the officer was struck by a stray bullet, which was not fired on the orders of the Chinese company or any of its employees.

Alao further stated that the Federal Government has launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident in collaboration with other security agencies. He assured that the investigation would uncover the full details of the circumstances surrounding the shooting, and anyone found responsible would be held accountable.

The Minister of Interior reaffirmed the government’s strong commitment to ensuring the safety, dignity, and professional integrity of all law enforcement officers.

He also emphasized the ongoing support for law-abiding businesses operating in Nigeria and reiterated the Ministry’s dedication to fostering productive partnerships with foreign nationals, with a focus on promoting sustainable social and economic development.
