Imama Amapakabo Remains Confident Abia Warriors Can Still Secure Top Three Finish Despite Enyimba Defeat

Abia Warriors head coach, Imama Amapakabo, remains hopeful that his team can still challenge for a top-three finish in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), despite their 2-1 loss to oriental rivals, Enyimba, on Sunday.

The Umuahia-based club took an early lead through Anthony Ijoma, but Enyimba fought back with goals from Kalu Nweke and Joseph Atule to claim victory at their Aba home ground.

Despite the defeat, Abia Warriors hold onto third place in the league standings, although they face mounting pressure from the teams below them. Amapakabo, however, is confident that his team’s continental ambitions remain intact.

“We’re still in the race. We’ll chase it and give it our all,” Amapakabo said after the match. “Kudos to the boys for giving their best.”

He added, “In terms of creating chances, I believe we had the better opportunities, but unfortunately, we conceded two goals from outside the box. We’ll review the game and focus on preparing for our next match against Rivers United.”
