“I’m Not Interested in AMVCA” – Ibrahim Chatta Reacts to Award Snub

Veteran Nollywood actor Ibrahim Chatta has publicly expressed his disinterest in the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) following his recent loss at the prestigious event.

Chatta, who was nominated in the Best Lead Actor category for his compelling performance in House of GAA, lost the award to fellow actor Femi Adebayo for his role in Seven Doors. The 11th edition of the AMVCA was held on Saturday night in Lagos and attracted top talents from across the African entertainment industry.

Speaking during a recent episode of the Curiosity Made Me Ask podcast hosted by content creator Isbae U, Chatta was asked if he felt overlooked in the industry and whether he hoped to someday win an AMVCA. In a brief but pointed response, he replied: “I’m not interested.”

The host, trying to lighten the mood, joked: “When you get home, pray that you should win AMVCA too.” But Chatta remained firm in his stance, signaling clear frustration with the awards process.

While he did not elaborate extensively during the interview, Chatta’s reaction echoes sentiments he’s expressed in the past. In 2023, the acclaimed actor voiced concerns about a possible bias or systemic oversight after failing to receive a nomination that year, suggesting there may be underlying politics influencing the selection process.

Despite being regarded as one of Nollywood’s most talented and versatile actors, Chatta’s relationship with mainstream awards bodies like the AMVCA has remained strained. His consistent omission or lack of recognition at major ceremonies has sparked debate among fans and critics, many of whom argue that his work deserves far more acknowledgment.

Chatta’s remarks add to the growing conversation about transparency, inclusion, and credibility within Africa’s major entertainment award circuits.
