IGP Orders Immediate Action for Safe Rescue of Afenifere Youth Leader

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has directed the swift deployment of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) to secure the safe release of Afenifere Youth Leader Eniola Ojajuni, who was kidnapped on February 17, 2025, while traveling to Abuja.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, reassured Nigerians that the police are fully committed to ensuring Ojajuni’s safe return, emphasizing the importance of using all necessary resources and expertise. The IGP commended the bravery of the officers and underscored their dedication to the safety and security of citizens.

“The NPF is determined to ensure the safe return of Prince Ojajuni and is deploying every resource at its disposal to achieve this,” the statement read.

The IGP has instructed the IRT to make the safe rescue of the Afenifere leader their top priority. ACP Adejobi also cautioned Nigerians against spreading unverified information about the incident on social media, stressing that it could endanger the ongoing rescue operation.

“The police urge the public to refrain from speculation or sharing unverified information as it can compromise the operation and the safety of the victim,” Adejobi warned.

In addition to this, Adejobi highlighted the recent successes of the police in combatting crime. On February 26, 2025, police operatives in Taraba State raided a criminal hideout at Wamunchi dry-season rice farms, arresting 20 suspects and recovering an AK-47 rifle, seven rounds of live ammunition, a motorcycle, three Dane guns, and a bow and arrow.

Meanwhile, in Oyo State, a rapid response by police and local security outfits led to the rescue of three kidnap victims from the palace of Baale Tajudeen Inaolaji on February 24, 2025, with one of the kidnappers being apprehended.

The police reaffirmed their ongoing commitment to dismantling criminal networks and maintaining peace and security across the country.
