Lawmakers in the House of Representatives have urged President Bola Tinubu to redouble efforts in executing federal spending plans, emphasizing that proper budget implementation is essential for delivering tangible benefits to Nigerians.
The call was made by Chairman of the House Committee on Infectious Diseases, Hon. Amobi Ogah, during the 2025 budget performance review and 2026 budget defence sessions for the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), the National Arbovirus and Vector Research Centre, and the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Training Centre.
Ogah highlighted that the previous year saw very low budget execution, describing it as a serious concern that undermines public confidence in government. “Last year, budget implementation was almost zero per cent. This must not continue if we want Nigerians to see real progress from their government”, he said.
He urged the Tinubu administration to ensure that federal projects are fully funded and effectively executed, stressing that accountable budget management is crucial for sustaining economic growth and improving citizens’ livelihoods.
“We expect no effort will be spared to guarantee that the Federal Government’s budget is fully realized and that inefficiencies of the past are avoided”, Ogah added.
