Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) has announced an upward review of its SMS transaction alert charges, increasing the fee from ₦4 to ₦6 per message, with the new rate taking effect Thursday, May 1, 2025.
The notification was issued to customers on Wednesday, informing them of the impending adjustment. “Dear valued customer, please be informed that effective Thursday, May 1, 2025, the SMS transaction alert fee will increase from ₦4 to ₦6 per message,” the message read.
According to the bank, the change in pricing is in response to increased operational costs imposed by telecommunication service providers. “This adjustment is due to a recent increase in telecom rates as communicated by the telecommunication service providers,” GTBank explained.
Despite the added cost, the bank reiterated the importance of SMS alerts as a critical tool for real-time monitoring of financial activity. “Kindly note that transaction alerts are important and help you keep track and stay in control of activities on your account,” the notice stated.
GTBank also assured customers of flexibility in how they receive transaction updates. Customers who prefer alternative channels such as email or in-app notifications are encouraged to opt out of SMS alerts by updating their preferences.
“If you prefer not to receive transaction alerts via SMS, you can update your preferences by completing the transaction alert form on our website and sending it to gtbankmailsupport@gtbank.com,” the message concluded.
The bank advised customers seeking further clarification or support to contact its customer service helplines.
