Governor Sule Dismisses One-Party State Fears, Attributes APC Growth to Tinubu’s Reforms

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has dismissed concerns that Nigeria is transitioning into a one-party state due to the growing dominance of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Sule attributed the influx of opposition members into the APC to the President’s impactful reforms and governance style, rather than coercion or political pressure.

“The recent defections are a testament to the performance of our party and the President,” Sule stated. “We’ve witnessed significant reforms such as the unification of exchange rates, removal of fuel subsidies, and advancements in the power sector. These initiatives resonate with the populace and inspire confidence in our leadership.”

Highlighting the administration’s focus on skill acquisition and agriculture, Sule emphasized that these sectors are pivotal for national development and have been prioritized under Tinubu’s leadership. “The emphasis on skill acquisition and agriculture addresses the core needs of our people, fostering economic growth and self-reliance,” he noted.

Addressing the notion of Nigeria becoming a one-party state, Sule clarified that the APC’s growing appeal is a reflection of its policies and achievements. “It’s not about the demise of other parties but about the APC’s commitment to delivering on its promises,” he explained.

In line with this perspective, Sule has previously expressed confidence in the APC’s strength, even in the face of potential opposition mergers ahead of the 2027 general elections. He emphasized that the party remains unshaken and focused on its developmental agenda.

Furthermore, Sule has lauded President Tinubu’s call for governors to prioritize grassroots development, aligning with his own governance philosophy that emphasizes localized solutions and community engagement.

As the political landscape evolves, Governor Sule’s remarks underscore the APC’s strategy of leveraging policy-driven governance to consolidate its position, while reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to a multiparty democratic system.
