Governor Okpebholo Distributes 2025 SUVs to Edo Council Chairmen, Vows Accountability

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has handed over new SUVs to local government chairmen, promising improved grassroots development and strict oversight.

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on Saturday announced the official distribution of 2025 model SUV vehicles to local government chairmen across the state.

He said the initiative aims to enhance service delivery and empower local councils to effectively drive grassroots development.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony at the State Secretariat in Benin City, Governor Okpebholo emphasized that his administration does not interfere with local government funds. According to him, the autonomy granted to councils is intended to foster accountability and measurable impact.

“This administration is changing the narrative. Local government chairmen now have the privilege of using brand new official vehicles—not for personal luxury, but to serve their communities,” the governor stated. He also added that his government will monitor the performance of council officials to ensure that their work reflects the resources allocated to them.

Okpebholo highlighted that Edo State is entering a new phase of development under the current administration, noting that his goal is to see Edo compete with major cities like Lagos and Abuja in terms of infrastructure and service delivery.

Commissioner for Local Government, Community and Chieftaincy Affairs, Lucky Eseigbe, praised the governor for allowing financial independence at the local level. He noted that this is the first time in the state’s history that all 18 local government chairmen are receiving 2025 SUV models for official use.

Eseigbe added that the initiative has already started yielding results, citing the construction of classrooms, healthcare centres, and road networks across the councils.

The event was attended by the Deputy Governor, Dennis Idahosa, and other senior government officials.
