Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has officially resumed his duties after a three-week vacation that began on March 11, 2025. Despite a two-week leave extension approved by the State House of Assembly, the governor chose not to take the additional time off, prioritizing his responsibilities.
A statement from the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Nsa Gill, confirmed that Governor Otu decided to cut his leave short and return to work immediately. The statement also clarified that the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Elvert Ayambem, had been informed of the governor’s decision.
The statement highlighted that the governor is now focused on advancing the state’s development agenda with renewed energy. Governor Otu’s first task upon his return is to oversee the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial primary election in Anambra State, a national responsibility entrusted to him.
Gill emphasized that the governor’s decision to forgo the extension was driven by changes in his commitments, necessitating his return to work earlier than planned. He further disclosed that Governor Otu’s return is expected to reinvigorate governance in the state, with a stronger focus on development and policy implementation.
Governor Otu is currently in Awka, Anambra State, where he is involved in the APC’s gubernatorial primary election scheduled for Saturday, April 5, 2025.
The Cross River State House of Assembly had approved the two-week leave extension on April 4, 2025, following a formal request from the governor.
