Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has publicly denied reports suggesting he intends to run for the Nasarawa North Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections, calling the claims false and misleading.
In a statement released on Tuesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Addra, the governor disassociated himself from a social media report that claimed he had declared interest in the senatorial race.
“Our attention has been drawn to a social media publication stating that His Excellency, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, has declared to run for Senate in 2027. This assertion is untrue and does not originate from the governor,” Addra stated.
He clarified that Governor Sule has not held any meetings or discussions to promote or confirm any future political ambition, noting that he has consistently declined suggestions urging him to seek elective office beyond his current role.
Addra acknowledged that while various individuals and groups have encouraged the governor to consider the Senate seat for Nasarawa North, Sule has remained resolute in his position.
“In all instances, the governor has politely but firmly declined such appeals, emphasizing that his attention remains fully on delivering his mandate to the people of Nasarawa State,” the statement noted.
The clarification comes amid growing political speculation following comments made by Alhaji Suleiman Musa Nagogo, Director-General of the Nasarawa State Bureau for Pension Administration, during a meeting with All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Wamba on Monday.
Nagogo reportedly told attendees that he had been “communicated” by the governor regarding a 2027 Senate run.
“I have been in Wamba this Monday morning with a crystal clear message from His Excellency… to inform them that he is desirous of contesting for the office of Senator come 2027,” Nagogo said.
The governor’s media office, however, distanced itself from that claim, urging supporters to focus on the administration’s development agenda rather than political speculation.
“Governor Sule is grateful for the continued support of Nasarawa citizens. However, we urge all to assist him in delivering on his current mandate rather than be distracted by unfounded rumours,” Addra added.
He concluded the statement with a call for unity and progress, praying for the peace and prosperity of both Nasarawa State and Nigeria.
Governor Sule, currently serving his second term, has positioned himself as a technocrat-focused leader and has yet to confirm any intentions regarding post-governorship political ambitions.
