Gov. Lawal Unveils 10-Year Zamfara Development Plan, Promises Human Capital Investment and Sustainable Growth

Governor Dauda Lawal has launched a landmark 10-year Zamfara State Development Plan (2025–2034), describing it as a transformative, data-driven blueprint designed to reposition the state for inclusive growth, stability, and long-term prosperity.

The plan was unveiled on Friday at the J. B. Yakubu Secretariat in Gusau. According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Idris, the state government engaged KPMG Advisory as the lead consultant, working closely with the Zamfara Executive Council, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other stakeholders over an eight-month period.

A First-of-Its-Kind Blueprint

Governor Lawal noted that the new plan is the first comprehensive long-term development framework in Zamfara’s recent history. He explained that the strategy is anchored on extensive data, broad-based consultations, and alignment with global and national development agendas—including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Nigeria’s National Development Plan 2050, and the African Union Agenda 2063.

“It sets clear sectoral priorities, measurable outcomes, and a monitoring and evaluation framework to ensure transparency at every stage,” the governor said.
He added that the vision is to make Zamfara a benchmark for transformative economic growth—not just within Nigeria, but across Africa.

Six Pillars for Transformation

Governor Lawal outlined six pillars underpinning the development plan:

Economic growth

Infrastructure development

Social welfare

Human capital advancement

Good governance

Environmental sustainability

He emphasized that Zamfara’s strengths—including agriculture and vast natural resources—will be fully leveraged through strategic partnerships such as the MoFI agreement and African Development Bank support. These initiatives aim to promote mechanized farming, expand agro-processing, create jobs, strengthen food security, open new markets, and reduce insecurity driven by poverty.

“We Are Preparing to Deliver”

The governor assured citizens that the development plan marks a decisive shift from rhetoric to purposeful action.

“With this state development plan, we are not merely dreaming—we are preparing to deliver. We are redefining the fate of our state,” he said. “We are rekindling hope for the young, dignity for the vulnerable, opportunity for the enterprising, and stability for all.”

He added that the launch represents a turning point: “Let it be said that when Zamfara was at its lowest, we rose not with empty promises but with vision and resolve.”

Stakeholders Express Support

Earlier, the Secretary to the State Government, Mallam Abubakar Nakwada; Chief of Staff, Mukhtar Lugga; and Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Abdulmalik Gajam, delivered goodwill remarks, commending the initiative and reaffirming the state government’s commitment to its implementation.
