Gov Fintiri Hikes NYSC Allowance to ₦30,000, Unveils Plan for New Camp in Adamawa

Governor Umaru Fintiri has announced a significant 50% increase in the monthly stipend of corps members serving in Adamawa State, raising it from ₦20,000 to ₦30,000.

The announcement came on Friday during the official opening of the 2025 Batch B Stream I NYSC Orientation Camp in Damare. Speaking at the event — and later reaffirming the move on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle — Fintiri said:

“Today, I declared open the 2025 Batch B Stream I NYSC Orientation in Damare. I announced an increase in corps members’ monthly allowance from ₦20,000 to ₦30,000. We’re also set to build a new NYSC camp, with professionals in relevant fields engaged in the project.”

According to the governor, plans are already in motion for the construction of the new camp, with experts in relevant disciplines commissioned to drive the project.

This move places Adamawa ahead of many states in state-level NYSC allowances. For comparison, just weeks earlier, Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno approved an increase in corps members’ stipends to ₦20,000 — aimed at supplementing the ₦77,000 federal monthly allowance and helping corps members meet living costs.

“Over 10,000 corps members are posted to Akwa Ibom annually. We must continue to encourage and support them,” Governor Eno stated when announcing his state’s increment.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), established in 1973, is a one-year compulsory programme for Nigerian graduates under the age of 30. Designed to foster unity and integration, it deploys young graduates to states outside their region of origin for community service.

With this increase, Adamawa joins a growing list of states taking proactive steps to improve corps members’ welfare while investing in facilities that can better support the NYSC’s mandate.
