Gas Explosion Leaves Several Injured, Damages Property in Calabar

Several residents sustained varying degrees of injuries on Saturday after a gas station exploded in the Edibe Edibe area of Calabar, triggering panic across parts of the city.

According to reports, the explosion, which occurred in Calabar South Local Government Area, sent shockwaves through the neighbourhood as fire engulfed sections of the gas station and affected nearby buildings and properties.

Eyewitnesses said a loud blast was heard moments before flames spread through the area, forcing residents, traders, and passersby to flee for safety amid fears of further explosions.

Emergency responders and security personnel were swiftly deployed to the scene to contain the fire, secure the area, and provide assistance to those injured.

The full extent of casualties and property damage was still being assessed as of press time, while authorities worked to determine the cause of the explosion.

Bassey Otu is expected to visit the affected area to assess the damage and receive firsthand reports on the incident.
