Funke Akindele’s Behind The Scenes Becomes Nollywood’s Highest-Grossing Film of 2025
Multi-award-winning actress and producer Funke Akindele has once again set a new benchmark in Nigerian cinema as her latest film, Behind The Scenes, emerges as the highest-grossing Nollywood movie of 2025.
The film has generated approximately ₦1.77 billion at the box office in under four weeks, according to figures released by its distributor, FilmOne Entertainment. The achievement further reinforces Akindele’s reputation as one of Nollywood’s most bankable filmmakers.
FilmOne had earlier announced that Behind The Scenes shattered five opening-weekend records, including the highest single-day gross on Boxing Day, when it earned ₦129.5 million.
Reacting to the latest milestone, the distributor praised audience support, describing the performance as another landmark moment for the film. FilmOne confirmed that Behind The Scenes also topped the box office charts as the number one film of the weekend.
The success adds to Akindele’s growing list of box office triumphs. It marks her third film to cross the ₦1 billion mark, following A Tribe Called Judah and Everybody Loves Jenifa. Both titles previously set industry records, with Everybody Loves Jenifa becoming the highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time.
Industry observers attribute the strong performance of Behind The Scenes to its strategic early screenings on December 10 and 11, which helped build anticipation ahead of its nationwide cinema release on December 12.
The film features a star-studded cast, including Scarlet Gomez, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, and Uche Montana, among others, adding to its wide appeal.
With its latest box office feat, Behind The Scenes further cements Funke Akindele’s status as a dominant force in Nollywood and a consistent driver of commercial success in the industry.
