Funke Akindele Makes History with ‘Behind the Scenes’, NOA Celebrates Record-Breaking Box Office

Actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has set a new benchmark in Nollywood with the unprecedented success of her latest movie, Behind the Scenes.
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) congratulated Akindele for the film’s historic achievement, noting that it has crossed ₦2.2 billion at the Nigerian box office, the first Nollywood film to surpass the ₦2 billion milestone.
According to NOA’s statement on X, Behind the Scenes has also performed impressively overseas, earning over $111,256 in Canada and $190,249 across North America.
“Funke Akindele Remains in Front with Behind the Scenes. Big screens, big stars, and even bigger numbers! Funke Akindele has done it again, shattering records both at home and abroad,” NOA stated.
The agency highlighted that the film’s success stretches from cinemas in Lagos and Abuja to international theatres, cementing its status as the highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time in Africa, the UK, and Ireland.
This achievement marks Akindele’s third consecutive year as Africa’s top-grossing filmmaker, solidifying her position as one of the continent’s leading storytellers.
“From local audiences to international viewers, Behind the Scenes demonstrates that Nigerian stories are not only resonating at home but are also making a significant global impact,” the statement added.
