Fuji Icon KWAM 1 Under Investigation for Allegedly Splashing Alcohol on Airport Staff

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has accused legendary Fuji musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1 or K1 De Ultimate, of assaulting aviation staff during a boarding process at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Tuesday.

According to a statement by FAAN, preliminary investigations revealed that the artist was scheduled to board ValueJet Flight VK 201 to Lagos when he allegedly attempted to carry an unidentified liquid onto the aircraft.

Despite multiple warnings from Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel and the flight captain, the musician reportedly insisted on taking the item on board.

FAAN cited the National Civil Aviation Security Programme (NCASP) and ICAO Annex 17, which prohibit liquids exceeding 100ml from being taken through security screening, unless for medical purposes and properly declared. KWAM 1 was informed of these regulations but allegedly refused to comply.

“Liquids exceeding 100ml are not permitted through security screening unless they are medically necessary and have been properly declared,” FAAN stated, citing Nigeria’s National Civil Aviation Security Programme (NCASP) and ICAO Annex 17 as the governing regulatory framework”.

Tensions escalated when an airline security officer requested the musician to step aside for further clarification. FAAN claims he reacted by pouring the contents of the flask, later confirmed to be alcohol, on the officer. The situation worsened when the flight captain intervened, only to be met with resistance from the musician.

Once boarding was complete, the captain ordered the aircraft door closed. However, the passenger reportedly moved toward the front of the plane and refused to disembark, causing further disruption.

He was eventually removed from the aircraft by AVSEC’s crime unit for questioning and was later released.

FAAN says investigations into the incident are ongoing.
