The suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has denied any association with militant groups threatening the federal government amid the political crisis in the state.
In a statement released on Monday in Port Harcourt and signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara expressed regret over attempts to link him to such groups. He pointed out that the communities where alleged explosions were reported had dismissed the claims of attacks on oil facilities, asserting that these accusations were aimed at tarnishing his reputation.
The statement read: “Almost all the fake videos circulating have been tied to supposed militant groups in the state, with content creators attempting to link them to supporters of Governor Siminalayi Fubara. However, the communities where these incidents were allegedly reported have already reacted, refuting any claims of explosions on oil and gas facilities in their areas and reassuring that critical government assets remain secure, safe, and operational.”
For clarity, Fubara emphasized: “Governor Siminalayi Fubara has no ties to any militant group, nor does he have any intention to associate with such groups. He has no reason to encourage any criminal elements to engage in actions that would disrupt the peace or harm the safety and security of oil and gas facilities, or the nation’s economy.”
He reiterated that the peace of the state is his top priority, stressing that only in a peaceful and secure environment can governance and development thrive.
Fubara also warned against attacks on critical government infrastructure, urging criminals to stay away from the state.
