Four Killed, Four Injured as Truck Rams Into Commercial Bus on Lekki–Epe Expressway

At least four people lost their lives while four others sustained serious injuries after a truck collided with a commercial bus along the Lekki–Epe Expressway in the Ajah area of Lagos.

The fatal accident, which occurred over the weekend, was confirmed on Sunday by Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

According to the agency, the crash involved an articulated truck with registration number KNN 313 YL and a fully loaded Suzuki commercial minibus, popularly known as Korope.

LASTMA spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq, said the impact of the collision claimed the lives of four male passengers instantly, while four other occupants—two men and two women—suffered severe injuries, including multiple fractures, after becoming trapped inside the mangled bus.

The four critically injured victims rescued from the wreckage were immediately taken to Hamon Royal Hospital for urgent medical attention, while the remains of the four deceased passengers were evacuated and deposited at Shency Hospital Morgue by an emergency ambulance belonging to the FRSC,” Taofiq stated.

Preliminary findings indicate that the truck driver lost control of the vehicle while in motion, causing it to veer off course and crash into the oncoming commercial bus carrying passengers along the busy expressway.

Emergency responders, including LASTMA officials, arrived promptly at the scene and, with the support of passersby and other rescue teams, successfully extricated the trapped victims from the wreckage.

The injured were rushed to hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were moved to the morgue by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps.

Security operatives from the Nigeria Police Force attached to the Elemoro Police Division were also deployed to maintain order, secure the accident scene, and facilitate rescue operations.

Authorities said an investigation has commenced to determine the exact cause of the crash, while the truck driver and his assistant reportedly fled the scene shortly after the incident.
