Former Vice President Namadi Sambo has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a significant political shift amid mounting internal crises within the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Sambo, who served as Vice President from 2010 to 2015 under President Goodluck Jonathan, was formally welcomed into the APC on Wednesday, June 18, by Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani. The reception took place at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House in Kaduna.
His defection adds to a growing list of high-profile PDP members—including senators, National Assembly representatives, and state officials—who have recently crossed over to the ruling party. The wave of defections has been widely attributed to persistent internal conflicts and unresolved leadership struggles within the PDP.
While the former VP has yet to issue a public statement, political observers say the move could send ripples through Kaduna’s power blocs and raise questions about realignments ahead of 2027.
Sambo’s move is expected to further reshape the political landscape in Kaduna State and potentially influence alignments ahead of the next electoral cycle.
