Former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s failure to provide credible leadership and deliver effective governance to Nigerians.
In a resignation letter dated July 4, 2025, shared on his official X account, Melaye addressed the PDP Ward 1 Chairman in Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, announcing his immediate withdrawal from all party activities.
“I hereby tender my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party at all levels of involvement,” Melaye wrote.
He explained that his decision was driven by the party’s “lack of potency and capacity to deliver the Nigerian people from the prevailing political cankerworms that have eaten deeply into the fabric of our dear nation.”
Melaye, who contested as the PDP governorship candidate in the 2023 Kogi State election, said the move came after careful reflection on the party’s state and trajectory.
“Having carefully reflected on the state of the party, I can no longer, in good conscience, participate in its activities or lend my support to its agenda,” he added.
He further requested that his resignation be treated as a complete withdrawal from all party structures and functions, effective immediately.
In closing, Melaye expressed gratitude to the PDP for the opportunity to serve under its platform during his years of membership.
