Five workers died when a building under construction collapsed on Thursday at 13, Wilson Mba Street, Arowojobe Estate, Maryland, Lagos.

The building under construction fell around 3:49 a.m. on Thursday in the Maryland neighbourhood of Lagos State, Nigeria.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA)  boss, Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, acknowledged the development in a statement.

According to the emergency responder five people, all adult males, were pulled alive from the site of the building fall.

Building collapses have recurred in Lagos in the last few weeks, worsened by flooding. Earlier in July, seven persons were rescued when a two-storey building collapsed in the Mushin area of the state.

Ten others were also rescued when a building caved in in the Isale Eko area of the state in May.

In Plateau state 22 persons died and 132 persons were injured when a school collapsed in the Jos North Local Government Area of the State earlier in July.
