The Federal Government has initiated an immediate investigation into the recent breach at the Koton Karfe Custodial Centre in Kogi State. Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, expressed his concern over the incident, calling it unfortunate.
In a statement issued on Monday by his Media Adviser, Babatunde Alao, the Minister assured that all escaped inmates would be captured through the use of advanced biometric and technological solutions already in place.
Tunji-Ojo has also directed the Acting Comptroller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, to visit the facility in Kogi to assess the situation and begin a thorough audit to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“We are fully on top of the situation. Our team is already on the ground in Kogi, and I have ordered a detailed audit to uncover the events that led to this breach,” he said.
The reported jailbreak occurred on Monday, with at least 12 inmates believed to have escaped. Additionally, one custodial official has been reported missing.
