Akume says FEC to go completely paperless by December 2025 under e-Governance drive…
The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) to digitalise the operations of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), moving Nigeria’s top policy body toward a fully paperless system.
Announcing the agreement in Abuja, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, said the initiative would enable the Cabinet Affairs Office (CAO) which coordinates FEC activities to transition completely to digital documentation and workflow.
Akume, represented by Emanso Okop, the Permanent Secretary of the Cabinet Affairs Office, described the signing as a landmark step toward modernising government processes, enhancing efficiency, and improving record management within the Cabinet Office.
“This collaboration will ensure that the Federal Executive Council operates completely paperless through the Cabinet Affairs Office,” Akume said.
He explained that the move would greatly reduce the workload on ministers, who currently handle voluminous physical documents during FEC meetings.
“In December 2024, we achieved real-time transcription of Council proceedings. This next phase will fully digitalise all processes. By December 2025, FEC will operate completely paperless, and we are grateful to NASENI for partnering with us to make this a reality,” he added.
In his remarks, Khalil Halilu, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NASENI, said the agency had already achieved a fully digitalised internal system and was ready to replicate the same transformation within the OSGF.
Halilu said the project aligns with NASENI’s broader mission to drive technological innovation, institutional efficiency, and digital transformation across public-sector agencies.
The partnership highlights the Federal Government’s renewed commitment to e-governance, with the goal of creating a more transparent, responsive, and digitally driven public administration.
