In a heartfelt ceremony held in Abuja, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Ajao Adewale, presented welfare cheques totaling ₦37,388,829.25 to the families of 39 deceased officers who served under the command.
The event, which took place at the FCT Police Headquarters, was conducted on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, as part of the police welfare scheme to support the families of personnel who died in active service.
According to the FCT Command’s Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, the disbursement falls under the Group Life Assurance (GLA), Nigeria Police Force Welfare Insurance Scheme (IGPFW), and the Group Personal Accident (GPA) insurance coverages.
During the presentation, CP Adewale reaffirmed the Force’s unwavering commitment to police welfare, describing the cheques as more than financial support.
“These cheques represent more than just monetary assistance. They are a symbol of our enduring respect, remembrance, and solidarity with the families of our fallen heroes,” he said.
The commissioner added that the gesture underscores the IGP’s vision for a compassionate and responsive welfare system, designed to boost morale and provide reassurance to police personnel and their families.
The occasion was attended by senior police officers, insurance representatives, and the beneficiaries’ family members, who received the cheques on behalf of their late loved ones.
The FCT Police Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring that the sacrifices of fallen officers are never forgotten, while also working to improve the welfare framework for serving personnel.
