Faithia Williams Returns to Promote ‘Efunroye: The Unicorn’ Amid Mother’s Passing

Nollywood actress Faithia Williams has resumed publicity for her forthcoming film, Efunroye: The Unicorn, weeks after losing her mother.

The movie, scheduled to premiere in cinemas nationwide on May 1, 2026, centres on the story of a formidable historical figure, with Williams playing a leading role.

The actress announced earlier this month that her mother passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2026,  just two days after she marked her 55th birthday.

In an emotional social media post, Williams described the weight of grief since her mother’s death, noting that she has yet to lay her to rest. She spoke about the difficulty of navigating condolences and private moments of reflection while preparing for a major film release.

Despite the pain, Williams said she made a conscious decision to continue promoting the project, describing it as both a personal milestone and a legacy work.

“My mother is gone… and I haven’t even laid her to rest yet,” she wrote. “Every day since her passing has felt heavy.”

She acknowledged that grief can be overwhelming but said she found renewed purpose in pushing forward with the film’s campaign.

“I could have stayed away. I could have mourned in silence. But I chose to rise, for my mother, for my legacy, for this story,” she stated.

Williams described Efunroye: The Unicorn as her first cinematic debut, calling it a long-held dream and a project she fought to bring to life. She characterised the film as a story rooted in power and legacy, referencing the central figure as a merchant, legend, and kingmaker.

The actress emphasised that promoting the film during this period is not a distraction from her grief but an act of resilience.

“I am grieving. I am hurting. But I am also standing,” she wrote, adding that life and purpose do not pause in moments of sorrow.

Efunroye: The Unicorn is set to hit cinemas across Nigeria on May 1, 2026.
