FAAN Assures Seamless Travel as MMIA Temporary Departure Terminal Nears Completion

New facility to handle up to 1,500 passengers at peak as Terminal One set for closure

The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Olubunmi Kuku, has assured passengers of uninterrupted and seamless travel operations at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, despite ongoing rehabilitation works at the facility.

Kuku gave the assurance while inspecting the newly constructed temporary departure terminal ahead of the planned closure of Terminal One for rehabilitation.

According to her, the temporary departure terminal, which spans about 8,000 square metres, is more than 90 per cent completed and is expected to commence operations soon.

She explained that the facility will initially cater to between five and six airlines and has the capacity to handle up to 1,500 passengers during peak travel periods. The terminal, she said, is fully equipped to provide essential passenger services, including check-in, security screening and boarding.

The FAAN managing director noted that the temporary terminal forms part of a phased rehabilitation and expansion project aimed at upgrading infrastructure at the airport without disrupting flight operations.

Kuku said the ongoing works are designed to improve safety standards, operational efficiency and passenger comfort at Nigeria’s busiest international gateway, while also enhancing the country’s aviation profile.

She assured passengers and airline operators that FAAN remains committed to ensuring smooth operations throughout the rehabilitation period.
