Enugu vows arrests, investigation of illegal revenue taskforce

The Enugu State Government has pledged to investigate and apprehend individuals involved in the illegal taskforce collecting revenue from scavengers in the state. This was revealed by the Secretary to the State Government, Chidiebere Onyia, on Tuesday in Enugu.

Expressing concern over the activities of the illegal taskforce, Onyia stated that the government would thoroughly investigate the matter and take appropriate legal action against those falsely presenting themselves as members.

He also acknowledged the formation of a committee by the state government through his office, tasked with exploring solutions to address the activities of scavengers, which pose a safety threat to the public.

Onyia clarified, “I want to inform Ndi Enugu that there is no task force set up by the Enugu State Government for environmental matters. We are currently investigating who formed this taskforce, and we have substantial evidence to track who is behind it and where the collected revenue has been channeled.”

He further cautioned the public against paying any money to individuals or taskforce teams claiming to collect revenue on behalf of the government. Onyia emphasized that the governor had ordered the immediate recovery of the illegally collected funds.
