EFCC Confirms Arrest of Social Commentator VeryDarkMan Over Cyberstalking Allegations

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the arrest of popular social commentator Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), following multiple petitions alleging cyberstalking.

EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale told BBC News Pidgin on Monday that VDM was taken into custody in response to several complaints from individuals who accused him of online harassment.

“We arrested him to address a series of allegations brought forward by various petitioners,” Oyewale said. He added that the commission intends to arraign VDM in court soon.

“He will be released once he meets the bail conditions. We will ensure due process is followed—we are a law-abiding institution,” he stated.

Responding to speculation linking the arrest to Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank), Oyewale clarified that the complaints were filed by unrelated individuals and had no connection to the bank.

“The agency has a responsibility to protect petitioners,” he noted.

VDM was reportedly arrested by EFCC officials last Friday.
