
Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has suspended the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Samson Osagie, as well as the Chairman of the Edo Local Government Service Commission, Damian Lawani, over allegations of serious financial misconduct.
In a statement released on Wednesday by Umar Ikhilor, the Secretary to the State Government, the suspension is effective immediately. The statement further revealed that the governor has established an investigative committee to probe the allegations against both officials.
“It is hereby announced for the information of the general public that the Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the suspension from office of Hon. Damian Lawani, Chairman of the Edo State Local Government Service Commission, and Hon. Samson Osagie, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, over allegations of grave official and financial infractions,” the statement read.
Ikhilor emphasized that the decision was made to facilitate a thorough investigation into the serious financial infractions that have been alleged against the two officials. The suspension will remain in place until the investigative committee completes its work and provides its findings.
“The suspension of Hon. Damian Lawani and Hon. Samson Osagie became necessary to enable the Government to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the financial infractions leveled against them,” Ikhilor added.
Both suspended officials are expected to cooperate with the investigation, which aims to ensure transparency and accountability in the management of state resources.
