Ebonyi Records 590 Criminal, 897 Civil Cases in Two Years — Attorney-General
Justice Ministry concludes 567 cases, enacts 26 laws, and expands access to legal support for indigent citizens.

The Ebonyi State Ministry of Justice has handled a total of 1,487 legal cases—590 criminal and 897 civil matters—within the past two years, according to the state’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ben Odoh.
Addressing newsmen in Abakaliki, Odoh said:
122 criminal cases have been concluded, while 468 remain pending
445 civil matters have been resolved, leaving 452 ongoing cases
He also revealed that the Ministry had successfully enacted 26 new laws under the current administration, aimed at promoting peace, order, and access to justice in the state.
“We’ve made efforts to reduce difficulties surrounding access to justice, especially for indigent citizens,” Odoh said.
To that end, the state established a Citizens’ Mediation Centre, which offers free legal services to low-income residents. So far, 86 cases have been resolved through this platform at no cost to the parties involved.
Additionally, the Ministry has introduced a Multi-Door Court system for those who can afford legal representation but prefer alternative dispute resolution (ADR) over formal litigation.
“This is for litigants who want to avoid the technicalities of traditional court proceedings,” he noted.
In partnership with the First Lady’s office, the Ministry also established a Sexual Gender-Based Violence Response Department to address cases of abuse and gender-based crimes more effectively.
Odoh reiterated the state government’s commitment to building a justice system that is inclusive, responsive, and people-oriented, ensuring both legal protection and prompt resolution of disputes.
