Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has ordered the reinstatement of 81 high-ranking government officials who were suspended for failing to attend a critical state function.
The directive was announced on Tuesday in a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Monday Uzor. According to the statement, the affected officials are to resume their duties without delay.
The suspended group included the state’s Attorney General, 25 commissioners, 22 permanent secretaries, 14 senior special assistants, and 24 special assistants. Their suspension was initially announced on July 28, 2025, and was described as a “working suspension” without pay.
The disciplinary measure stemmed from their collective absence at a significant government event. During the suspension period, the officials were also barred from signing any official documents.
The move sparked reactions across the state, with many describing the Governor’s decision as a stern message about discipline and commitment within the administration.
With the latest development, the Governor appears to have drawn a line under the issue, signaling a reset and return to business for his cabinet and aides.
The Governor has not made any further comment on whether additional actions would be taken to ensure accountability in future government functions.
